Childbirth & Breastfeeding Classes

Finding out you’re having a baby is an exciting time. With that excitement often comes a number of questions, especially for first-time parents. 

To help mothers-, fathers-, and siblings-to-be feel at ease, our maternity services include a variety of highly informative and interactive classes. In-person sessions are led by our expert OB-certified nurse instructors. They’re also great refreshers if you already have children.

Childbirth Classes

This class provides an overview of the stages of labor, as well as what to expect during your delivery at AtlantiCare. Relaxation techniques and ways a support person can support the birthing person during labor are reviewed. This class also discusses some of the more common interventions used during labor and provides information to help you feel informed about your choices during the process of labor and birth.

Breastfeeding Classes

We encourage all expecting mothers and their families to take this course starting in the 7th month of pregnancy. Topics include: latching-on, proper positioning, and establishing a milk supply. You’ll also gain practical tips from International Board Certified Lactation Consultants that are also nurses.

Baby Basics Classes

This class introduces expectant parents in their 9th month of pregnancy, adoptive parents, grandparents, and caregivers to all aspects of infant care and safety. Topics include: feeding, bathing, skin care, circumcision care, and characteristics of the newborn.
