Our Roger B. Hansen Center for Childbirth includes Maternal Newborn Services and the region’s only Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Our highly skilled and dedicated team of medical experts, which includes providers from AtlantiCare Physician Group OB/GYN, provides comprehensive care to parents and their babies before, during and after delivery. 

Our team includes:

  • Board-certified anesthesiologists on site, 24/7
  • Board-certified obstetricians, available 24/7
  • Certified nurse-midwives
  • Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia Board-certified neonatologists, available 24/7
  • Specialty-certified nurses
  • Certified lactation consultants, all of whom are nurses

A Warm, Caring Environment that Feels Like Home

Our goal is to deliver the highest quality family-centered care.

Our warm, caring environment includes:

  • A welcoming lobby, with comfortable furnishings and calming artwork
  • Rooms with state-of-the-art technology, as well as all the comforts of home:
  • Private Deluxe Birthing Suites: With rocking chair, private bathroom, whirlpool bath and spa shower, sleeping chair for significant other, television, WiFi access
  • Mothers labor, deliver, recover and keep their baby with them in the same room (unless different arrangements must be made for medical reasons)
  • Even if the baby is delivered by Cesarean section, the baby stays with the mother (unless different arrangements must be made for medical reasons)
  • Open visitation; designated quiet times are 2:00-4:00 p.m. and after 9:00 p.m. daily, or a “Quiet Time” sign can be placed on the door at any time

Other Comforts and Care for Mothers, Babies and Families:

  • Family-contracted doulas are welcome. Learn more about our Doula policy here.
  • Birthing balls are available for comfort and positioning during labor
  • Aromatherapy is available in a variety of scents to help moms relax, enhance their sense of well-being and reduce anxiety
  • The baby is delivered and transferred to mom’s chest immediately—skin to skin—offering an opportunity to bond and breastfeed as soon as the baby is ready
  • Delayed cord clamping means babies receive the maximum benefits of higher hemoglobin and iron levels
  • Anesthesiologists are available to help with pain management needs
  • Licensed nurses/lactation consultants are available to help new moms make breastfeeding a positive, successful experience
  • AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center contracts with Bella Baby for families who wish to have their baby photographed professionally in the hospital. Bella Baby posts photos to a password-protected, online slide show for parents/guardians to view. Breastfeeding Support

We are a Family-Friendly organization. We protect, promote and support breastfeeding as recommended by medical experts, including the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), and American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

Breastfeeding provides benefits for both mother and baby, and we are proud of our commitment to offer an optimal level of care for mothers and their babies.  At our AtlantiCare Roger B. Hansen Center for Childbirth, we provide the highest level of quality care in regard to breastfeeding utilizing best practice standards.
